Lighting Designer and Master Electrician

This production consisted of fun, energetic Latin dance mixed with hip-hop. Much of the lighting served to add energy to the pieces, especially through the saturated colors and quick changes. Due to the quick tech week, there was not enough time to teach a stage manager when to call the lighting transitions. To solve for this, I programmed in the lighting changes to happen automatically based on a timestamp in the music. This allowed my cues to land exactly where I wanted them, everytime.

The Design Process

  1. Collaborated with the director and creative team to create an overall vision for the production
  2. Analyzed the script for themes and motifs that could be emphasized through lighting
  3. Utilized digital drafting drawings such as AutoCAD and VectorWorks to plan out where to hang lights and communicate that information with the installation crew
  4. Hung and wired lighting equipment in the grids above the stage
  5. Focused lighting to various points on the stage to create back, side, top, and front illumination on the actors
  6. Programmed the lighting console to execute precisely timed cues that transitioned between lighting look
  7. Trained the Stage Manager and Light Board Operator on when to trigger the lighting cue given a specific moment in the script or actor motion
